Don't need a root canal, just access to fix cavity?

Instead of replacing my crown, my dentist is going to attempt to make an access point through the crown to fix a small cavity tomorrow, then patch it like a chipped tooth. MA won't cover a new crown, but they will cover a filling. She might have to remove the old crown anyway if she runs into issues, but since I have Multiple Myeloma, no money and no income, I'm willing to give it a shot and see if it works for the amount of time I have left.

Anything I should be aware of, or keep an eye out for, if she is successful and doesn't have to remove the old crown?
