It seems fairly unlikely that using the strips would be effective.

The whitener found on whitestrips is hydrogen peroxide, and this form of peroxide in particular poses challenges for manufacturers in delivering a potent product, much less some years after its manufacturing date.

Since it's just a matter of the whitener being depleted, there should be no problem in using the strips to see what results you get. Just don't expect much.
