The Niveous ™ teeth whitening system is Shofu Dental Corporation's professional teeth whitening product. This is one of the professional teeth whitening systems where the manufacturer considers the use of a bleaching light during the whitening treatment process to be optional.

The Niveous ™ teeth whitening system utilizes a hydrogen peroxide-based bleaching gel. This whitener gel comes prepackaged and ready to use. It has a hydrogen peroxide concentration of 25% and a pH of 7. A unique feature of the Niveous ™ system is that the applicator brushes that come with the system are impregnated with an activator that enhances the whitener's effect.

Shofu Dental considers using a bleaching light with their Niveous ™ teeth whitener as an optional, as opposed to mandatory, step. If the dentist performing the whitening treatment chooses to use a light then Shofu Dental considers a standard "curing" light to be appropriate. A curing light is that type of light unit that a dentist uses to cure white filling material (dental bonding). The output of a curing unit is typically light that falls within the blue to blue-green portion of the spectrum.

The only scenario that can lead to a heating effect on the teeth during the bleaching treatment is if the Niveous ™ whitener is used in conjunction with a curing light. Curing lights are typically designed so to illuminate just one or two teeth at a time. This means that during the bleaching process the dentist will need to move the light from one tooth to another repeatedly. Using this technique, it seems unlikely that a heating effect would be produced.

If your dentist does choose to use a light with the Niveous ™ teeth whitener, it will be one that they already own and currently use in conjunction with other dental procedures.

Niveous ™ teeth whitening treatments usually take about an hour from start to finish. Each bleaching session is broken down into two individual applications of the Niveous ™ teeth whitener, with the duration of each application being 15 minutes. This means that the cumulative exposure of the patient's teeth to the Niveous ™ teeth whitening gel is 30 minutes. Pre and post treatment preparations and activities round the total treatment time up to right about an hour.
The need for the use of an at-home tray-based teeth whitener after the professional teeth whitening process has been completed is an option left up to the discretion of dentist performing the whitening treatments.

The procedure your dentist follows when performing Niveous ™ teeth whitening system treatments does not vary greatly from those general steps we illustrate and describe for the typical professional teeth whitening process. Specifically, however, as you read through our pages please note that the Niveous ™ whitening system does make use of a paint on dental dam, the "activation" of the whitening gel with a bleaching light is considered to be optional, as are continued teeth whitening treatments performed at home.
Per our usual comments in response to this question, this is a decision that needs to be made by you and the dentist performing the whitening treatments. The Niveous ™ teeth whitening system is a good product and is made by a company that has a history of making quality dental products. The results produced by the Niveous ™ teeth whitening system should be as good as with any other quality professional teeth whitening system.
