The Philips Sonicare FlexCare R910 rechargeable sonic toothbrush.

The Sonicare FlexCare R910 rechargeable electric toothbrush.

The FlexCare R910 along with the model RS930 make up the Sonicare 900 Series of electric toothbrushes. The 900 Series is the top tier of the Philips Sonicare electric toothbrush product line. Both of these 900 Series models feature the exact same Sonicare electric toothbrush, however, the model R910 lacks the integrated UV toothbrush sanitizer that the model RS930 has. Another difference between these two models is that the FlexCare RS930 comes with two brush heads whereas the FlexCare R910 only comes packaged with a single (standard-sized) brush head.

The FlexCare 900 Series sonic toothbrushes (including the FlexCare R910), as compared to some other Sonicare models, offers a rechargeable lithium ion battery and a compact multi-voltage travel charger, utilizes Sonicare's newest style of brush heads (ProResults brush heads), and features the greatest range of cleaning "modes" and preconfigured cleaning "routines." They also have been designed so they have a lower level of operational noise and vibration than other Sonicare models. All of these mentioned features are discussed in our text below.

Philips and Sonicare are registered trademarks of Koninklijke Philips Electronics N.V.
Easy-start and QuadPacer are registered trademarks of Philips Oral HealthCare, Inc.

We see this toothbrush referenced as the Sonicare FlexCare R910 HX6911/02. Please be aware that model features sometimes change. Before placing an order or purchasing any toothbrush you should thoroughly evaluate its packaging or description so to insure that you know precisely what features and accessories you will receive with it.

Model-specific features of the Sonicare FlexCare R910 electric toothbrush.

» FlexCare R910 - Operating modes, speeds and brushing routines.

Being a member of the Sonicare FlexCare 900 Series, the FlexCare R910 has three different operating modes (equivalent to speeds or power settings with other electric toothbrushes) and two brushing routines to choose from.

The operating modes that the FlexCare R910 offers are, in ascending order of brush agitation, the Massage, Sensitive, and Clean modes. The model R910 produces Sonicare's characteristic, patented 31,000-brush-strokes-per-minute brushing action when set in the Clean mode. Those users who find this brushing mode too vigorous can choose the more gentle (although less effective) Sensitive mode. The Massage mode is intended to be used as a gum tissue "stimulation" mode.

The FlexCare model R910 also sports Sonicare's Programmable Quadpacer and Smartimer features. The Sonicare Smartimer feature automatically turns off the brush after it has run for two minutes (Sonicare feels that most dentists recommend that a patient should brush for two minutes in duration). The Sonicare Programmable Quadpacer feature creates a beep-and-pause action that indicates that another one-fourth of the Smartimer brushing cycle has elapsed. The idea is that this information can help the user to judge an appropriate amount of time to spend in each region of their mouth. (Sonicare recommends that a user should use a brushing approach that mentally segregates their teeth into four separate groupings or "quadrants.") The R910's Programmable Quadpacer also allows the user to configure an extra 30-second brushing interval into their brushing cycle (for a total of 2 1/2 minutes of cleaning). This allows the user to have extra time to dedicate to areas that are especially difficult to clean.

As an alternative to selecting one of the FlexCare's three running modes, the R910 owner can instead select one of the brush's two brushing "routines." One of these routines is the Go Care. It sets the brush to run in Clean mode for one minute (with the Quadpacer function signaling at 15-second intervals). The other available routine is the Max Care. This routine runs the brush in Clean mode for 30 seconds followed by 15 seconds of Massage mode for four cycles and a total brushing time of three minutes. The Quadpacer function will signal at 45-second intervals when the brush is run using the Max Clean routine.

The Flex Care R910 has Sonicare's Easy-start function. The Easy-start option creates a brushing mode where the brush's power incrementally increases over the user's next fourteen brushing events. This gradual power ramp-up is intended to provide a way by which a new user's mouth can be gently introduced and eased into the Sonicare brushing experience.

» ProResults brush heads.

The FlexCare R910 comes with a single (standard-sized) Sonicare ProResults-style brush head. ProResults brush heads represent Sonicare's most recent brush head design. These brushes have a contour that is intended to maximize brush contact with the user's teeth and gum tissue. The bristled portion of the brush is marginally wider and more flared than previous designs, which Philips Sonicare says makes for more efficient brushing.

Possibly more important to the user, ProResults brush head units are designed differently than previous generations of Sonicare brushes. They are smaller and snap into the brush handle easily. They tend to trap less debris than previous brush head designs. The FlexCare R910 comes with three interchangeable color-coded rings that can be mounted on ProResults brush heads to serve as a means of user identification. The R910's charger base has a place to hold two extra ProResults brush heads.

ProResults brush heads come in two sizes, both of which can be utilized with the FlexCare R910. The Standard brush head is the larger and will typically be most suited for use with adults. The Mini brush head is compact in size and is gear towards use by people with relatively small mouth's (including adolescents), limited oral access, or those users with special brushing needs (braces, hard-to-reach places). In order to maintain optimal brushing efficiency, Philips Sonicare recommends that ProResults brush heads should be replaced every three months.

» Sonicare FlexCare batteries / recharging.

Similar to the FlexCare RS930, the FlexCare R910 has a rechargeable lithium-ion battery. Philips Sonicare states that this battery can deliver twenty 2-minute brushings when initially fully charged. The stand for the R910 serves as its charging base. Depending on its initial status, it can take as long as 24 hours to fully recharge the battery. For this reason, Philips Sonicare suggests that the FlexCare R910 should be left in its charging stand when not in use.

The FlexCare 900 series of brushes, including the model R910, features Sonicare's "deluxe" recharge gauge. This is a four-indicator lighted gauge that displays the approximate percentage battery charge that remains (<25%, >25%, >50%, >75%). Any unneeded length of the R910's electrical cord can be conveniently wrapped out of the way around its base. For the world traveler, the toothbrush's charging unit separates from its base to become a compact multi-voltage travel charger.

» Other Flex Care R910 design features.

The FlexCare 900 series of toothbrushes (which includes the R910) has been designed with a vibration canceling system that reduces the vibrations you feel as you hold and use the brush by about 80% (when compared to the Sonicare Elite). This feature also helps to reduce the amount of noise the brush makes. FlexCare Series 900 brushes also are 16% lighter and 30% smaller than the Sonicare Elite model.

» Traveling with the Sonicare FlexCare R910 sonic toothbrush.

The Sonicare FlexCare R910 comes with two plastic brush head protection caps, the above mentioned compact multi-voltage travel charger and a travel case.

» Sonicare warranties and guarantees.

The FlexCare R910 has a two-year limited warranty. The FlexCare line of toothbrushes, just like other Sonicare models, also comes with a 90-day satisfaction guarantee. This guarantee allows you to return your Sonicare for a refund if you are not satisfied with its performance. Of course the specific conditions of this guarantee are per the terms outlined by Philips Sonicare. If this guarantee is an important product feature to you, you should contact Philips Sonicare and/or evaluate the packaging of the toothbrush you plan to purchase before you buy.

» FlexCare R910 sonic toothbrush features recap:

The FlexCare R910 is one of Sonicare's top-of-the-line sonic toothbrush models.
