Which is the proper term: tooth sealants, dental sealants, or pit and fissure sealants?

Communicating with your dentist about dental sealants.

It really doesn't matter which of the phrases, tooth sealants, dental sealants, or pit and fissure sealants, you use when discussing matters with your dentist. To them, all of these terms are synonymous. If you mention any one of them, they will know precisely what you mean.

The technique of utilizing tooth sealants as a way to protect teeth from tooth decay has been around for a long time, in fact for over a generation. The groundwork research for tooth sealants was laid back in the 1950's and 1960's. The first commercially available tooth sealants were marketed to dentists in the early 1970's.
